"I went out there in search of experience, to taste and to touch and to feel as much as a man can before he repents."-- Johnny Cash, The Wanderer
"My heroes have always been cowboys . . ." -- Willie Nelson
Welcome to BraveCowboy.com, home of Brave Cowboy Design and the writing of Ben Gore!
Perhaps you came here looking for the the web design company called Brave Cowboy Design. Perhaps you came here looking for information about the writer Ben Gore. Unless you're very unique, you probably didn't anticipate getting both at the same time.
So what's the deal? Well, we here at Brave Cowboy Design, maintainers of BraveCowboy.com, are perhaps the biggest fans of Ben Gore's writing around. This might be because the writer Ben Gore maintains the web design company Brave Cowboy Design as a day job while he's working at getting famous. Or maybe it's just a bizarre coincidence.
Regardless of why you came here, look around. Maybe you'll get a website in addition to a witty essay. Or maybe you'll get a new novelist in addition to your literary agency's spiffy new web presence. You never know what'll happen when you leave the reins slack.
Web News
- 10 April 2007 -- Finally updated the "portfolio" and "services" sections. I've been too busy updating
other people's websites to work on my own.
Writing News
- 11 September 2007 -- Apparently it's cloudy today for the sixth commemoration of the WTC bombings. A day to mourn lost souls, but also lost opportunities of 6 years sliding into fascism. Out here in the far-west, at continent's edge, we're in the grip of our traditional month of blazing glory known elsewhere simply as September. Perhaps it's simply luck, or a curious glitch in the space time continuum, but the September issue of the Brooklyn Rail comes out today. The lead essay in the books section is a meditation on the early attempts to understand the plight of post-modern man. That is, it's a review of the forgotten and brilliantly, obstinately American novel after which this website is named (and, yeah, I wrote it, for what its worth). As always, if you're in New York this month, pick it up at fine cultural institutions around the city (and of course Brooklyn). As always, you can also read it online, if you're into that sort of thing, here.
- 24 July 2007 -- The July/August issue of the Brooklyn Rail is out. It contains another of my fine book reviews. Pick it up for free around New York or check it out online here.
- 17 July 2007 -- Igntion: What You Can Do To Fight Global Warming And Spark A Movement was released this week.
Chapter 10 was a collaborative project between Julia West and myself. Bicycle down to your local book store and pick yourself up
a copy. Or, if you must, you can order it from Amazon.com here. Oh, and by the way, it contains work by legitimately famous folks like Bill McKibben.
